Surfacing Koi

On a resent trip to Hawaii I became mesmerized watching a pond of Koi fish, which ultimately lead to this photo composite. They were so beautiful in the sunlight with their vibrant colors and various patterns. I’m certain they are like snow flakes, where no two alike.

As I watched them swim my intent behind the lens was to capture their motion as they swam about.  However, as I was photographing, there was one Koi who surfaced in a brightly lit beam of sunlight and his orange color just radiated as the sun reflected off of him. I knew at that point he was the one that the story would  be about.
